New Jersey Agent Alliance Adds Major Partner
Monmouth Jct, NJ November 11, 2010 Consolidated Insurance Agents (CIA) on Monday announced its new association with Fair Lawn, NJ based United Assurance, Inc.
This news highlights a banner period for CIA, the United affiliation is their third equity partner relationship since the program began in April of this year. Now, coupled with over a dozen producing agencies, CIA is New Jersey’s fastest growing Agency Alliance.
“United Assurance adds so much to what we are trying to accomplish with our group. They bring decades of industry experience, strong carrier relations that complement our current offering and over $40M of premium volume,” said Michael Varvar, President of CIA. “We are thrilled to add such a large and prestigious Agency as a member.” Varvar added.
Thomas V. Perna, President of United Assurance, Inc had this to say “The challenges we face as Agency Principals in today’s environment are similar. The retail insurance market is changing and making it more difficult than ever to increase profits. I knew the right alliance would ensure our ability to compete and grow effectively over the next 15 to 20 years.”
“I wanted an agent alliance which addressed concerns similar to ours, plus having the right carrier relationships and premium volume. After investigating several others, I discovered CIA.” said Perna.
“After meeting with the partners of CIA, I knew within the first five minutes that the business model CIA presented would benefit my agency best.” he said.
Consolidated, a New Jersey Corporation was formed by Varvar, Raymond Pavese and Michael McCormick of the Pavese McCormick Insurance Agency earlier this year. They built a program to directly address agent concerns in their state relative to customer retention and individual agency growth & profitability. The model allows agents to maintain their ownership and location. Due to its “agent friendly” process, CIA continues to find wide acceptance.
Members benefit through aggregation of premiums. They also get access to additional markets without large volume commitments, providing higher retention and closing new business sales opportunities. This allows hometown Agents compete and continue in the communities they serve.
CIA is currently accepting applications from like-minded agents for equity and producing partner opportunities in strategic geographic locations throughout New Jersey.

This Month's Tip - Do You Need Pet Insurance for Buddy? Veterinary bills are increasing much faster than the overall rate of inflation. Part of this reason lies in the advancements of medical techniques and the increasing number of veterinarian specialists. These trends, however, come at a price. For example, performing a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam on the spine of a cat can cost upwards of $2,000. Removing a tumor on a dog can cost $4,000, and implanting a pacemaker can cost over $7,500. Even dealing with a dislocated ankle can run you around $5,000.
As a result, pet insurance sales are increasing rapidly. Is this a wise purchase? Much of the decision depends on how you view your pet. If you are emotionally close to your pet and see it as a loving family member who is nearly irreplaceable, then consider the following questions. If the answer to any of the questions below is yes, you should look into purchasing this coverage.
- Are you willing to go into debt to provide health care for your pet?
- Are you on a fixed or limited income?
- Would you be willing to spend over $5,000 to save your pet in a life-threatening situation?
If you decide to purchase this protection, you should carefully compare the rates and policy provisions of at least three well-established pet insurers. Get more personal lines insurance and risk management tips and ideas from IRMI.
